Ipso Fatto Instant Photos: Alexis Turns Ten!

My cousin's daughter Alexis just turned ten and she requested chocolate cupcakes for her birthday. Alexis is definitely a chocoholic -- last year she got a Chocolate Heaven Cake with Chocolate Buttercream, and the year before that it was a New Brooklyn Blackout Cake. I decided that the delectable Brooklyn Blackout Cupcakes I made last Fourth of July would be perfect for Alexis -- minus the pudding filling so I wouldn't have to worry about keeping them refrigerated.
I frosted the cupcakes and decorated them with homemade fondant toppers. I hadn't been given any instructions regarding decorations, so I decided to go with cherry blossoms. Peak bloom was just a week before Alexis's birthday party and all of April can be considered cherry blossom season in Washington, D.C. -- at least as far as tourists are concerned. Plus, I have some experience making fondant cherry blossoms, and I love a pink and brown color scheme.
I was really pleased with the way that these came out. Even Alexis's younger brother Josh, who prefers vanilla to chocolate, complimented the cupcakes and cleaned his plate. Happy birthday Alexis!
